We’re in Maine this week. This will be the 3rd time we’ve done the 19-hour drive with the girls, but the first time we’ve done it with them since they turned 2. They’re good little girls and great little riders, so I expect this trip to go off without a hitch (with my fingers crossed, of course). This is also the first time Jeremiah will be joining us in Maine. He’s flying up for a quick 4-day trip. We’ll be picking him up in Bangor a few days after we arrive. I expect him to fall head-over-heels in love with the place and start planning our lives in the backcountry woods of Northern Maine.
The weather in Maine will be a welcome change from our stifling heat down here in the South. The only thing you can do in 100-degree heat, 100% humidity is play in water. It seems we hit the beach, the pool or the fountain at Waterfront Park pretty much every. single. day.
I picked up this car seat tablet mount for the road trip. During our flight to California in March, strategic screen time was a lifesaver, so this will hopefully help us get through those touchy moments when my toddlers decide 10 hours in the car is enough!
We live in the best neighborhood, full of friendly faces and lots of kids. A neighbor recently started a ‘Saturdays at the Beach’ event that is family-friendly and mindful of toddler naps. We’ve been 20+ strong each week since it’s fruition. We love the beach, but beaching with other friends, families and kiddos is so much sweeter!
Speaking of the beach, I’m new to the one-piece bathing suit movement. I still love a great two-piece, but a one-piece feels safer when wrangling toddlers by the pool, at the beach and in the lake, especially now that my girls are obsessed with “boobies!” This beautiful one-piece bathing suit from Anthropologie will accompany me to Maine. Also, this suit makes me giddy. If only it didn’t cost $400!
Jeremiah and I are both big podcast listeners. We’ve been fans of RadioLab, Note to Self, and The Heart for a while now, but we just recently got turned on to RadioLab’s spinoff ‘More Perfect’, about untold stories from the supreme court and it’s soooooooo good. Seriously. If you’re a fan of podcasts, this one is so worth your time. It’s my new favorite and will definitely be accompanying me on the long trip up to Maine.
My cousin purchased this float for our families lake house in Maine. This is sure to be a fun addition to the water toy stash this summer.
Any tips for long road trips with toddlers? Please share.
