My husband is a trained chef. He doesn’t cook professionally anymore, but he still loves to cook at home and as many professional chefs tend to be – I know, my brother is also a professional chef – he’s a bit of a food snob. We grow a lot of our own vegetables and herbs and use fresh, quality ingredients, organic vegetables and high-quality meat.
Lately I’ve been noticing him buying fresh herbs form the grocery store and realized that it was because all the herbs are down in the garden. We used to have an herb garden on the side patio outside our kitchen, but this summer was too hot and they couldn’t sustain out there, so I moved them down into the main garden. I think he forgets they’re there.
So, I decided it was time to get them into the house, close to the kitchen, where he can easily get to them while cooking. Plus, it’s really cute and adds to our growing indoor plant collection.
I just grabbed 4 small terra cotta pots from Lowes. The rest of the materials I had on hand. I used a scrap fence picket for the holders and some leftover rope {the same stuff I used for my macrame hanging planter.
I traced the top of the planter onto my wood and then used a jigsaw to cut out my circles. Be sure that you cut about a 1/4 inside the circle or else your pot will fall through.
Then cut them into equal squares and drill a hole in all 4 corners. I sanded and stained mine. If you’re using better quality wood, you could leave them raw, but treated fence pickets are pretty gnarly, so I chose to sand and stain.
String them together using your macrame rope by tying a knot under each wood square. I made mine so that they are 10 inches apart.
Then simply slide them into place. The pots should hang from their lip. I take them out to water them, but you could actually sit them in their tray in the hanging planter too. It’s really a matter of taste.
Happy New Year! We’re looking forward to a year filled with projects with you all!
