Work has begun on the stairway to our master suite. I’ve chatted a bit about this awkward little area before. It’s at the back of the house, services our master suite, and is essentially seen by no one. We’re pretty sure that the master suite was an addition and so the configuration (along with a few other annoying things in this house) was an afterthought.
Aside from a baby gate and a plant table, this area has been sorely neglected. We, like many others, have focused our attention on rooms that people see more frequently. But, this year we’re focusing on the rooms that make our world go round, like the master bedroom and this sad, sad, sad stairwell.
We’ve already started to paint it this nice icy white, Snowball by Valspar. You can see the color on this little section of wall in the walkway to the living room. So in LOVE with my black and white engineer prints of the girls…but I digress.
Here’s a look at where we’re going. The plan is to paint the ceiling green. We’ll be adding some chunky raw wood to warm up the space in the form of an oversized floating handrail and photo ledges. There will be a ton of art and photos in here, which will help us add some much needed pops of color. A round mirror will anchor the space on the landing and I’ll be adding a bench under the existing console table for a trendy stacked table look. Finally, we’ll be adding a runner to the stairs and replacing that drab builder-basic light fixture.
A few more photos of the before. In a few weeks, I’ll share the afters!!
