Now that the entry feels somewhat complete, I thought it might be fun to look at how this space has transformed over the past year and a half.
April 2014. Here’s what this area looked like on move-in day.
Shortly after moving in, I added this storage bench that I hacked using an Ikea Expedit shelving unit.
In December of 2014, I upcycled those milk crates using burlap, which made it look a little bit nicer.
The bench was replaced by a real bench, one made of wood, that was substantial and sturdy. Of course, I lost all that storage, which was a bit of a pain.
In November, I built floating shelves, brought back the burlap-covered milk crates, and added a coat rail. You’ll also notice the walls are no longer beige! The whole downstairs has been repainted with Valspar Signature Sapphire Glow, a crisp white with blue-grey undertones.
Last week, the old bench moved into our master bathroom and was replaced by this even-more substantial, wall-to-window waterfall edge bench that has me all starry-eyed and drooling. I seriously love this bench!
**Next up we’ll be knocking down that wall to the right (the one that’s still beige). The kitchen is behind that wall. The new kitchen will be open-concept, with cabinets coming all the way out to that edge of that window. Until then, I’m planning to add a hat storage solution and am looking to upgrade my basket situation. I also need to adjust some of the photo/art in this area. Hahaha! Complete, right?
